The much anticipated opening off the Blackpool Comedy Carpet took place today, slightly later than planned..
I think the original date was August 11, but now its here, I think it looks wonderful..
It was due to be opened by Mr Ken Dodd MBE at 12.30pm, not sure what happened but I left at 145pm as I had family commitments and it was absolutely pouring down with rain as my little video will show later on in my report..
A homage to more than 850 of the comedians and writers who have made the UK laugh, has been unveiled in Blackpool.
The “comedy carpet” features the catchphrases, jokes and names of comedians including Les Dawson, Frankie Howerd and Tommy Cooper.
It has been crafted from granite and concrete and placed at the foot of Blackpool Tower.
The BBC’s Ed Thomas was entertained by one of the best-known stars who also feature on it, Ken Dodd.

Artist Gordon Young added: “Blackpool occupies a unique and important place in the social history of Britain.
“Comedy in all its guises is a big part of who we are; it has its own history and a very important place in that history is Blackpool.”
It is made of granite and concrete and features more than 160,000 individually cut letters detailing the names of more than 1,000 comedians, writers and performers from film, radio, TV and theatre and celebrating their catchphrases, songs and classic jokes.
Lots of TV coverage, this is great for Blackpool..

Live In Blackpool Team Member Chris..

Prior to visiting the Comedy Carpet I strongly felt that our very own Frank Carson should be the person to open the Comedy Carpet, I spent over an hour with these 2 lovely ladies..
Edited original post as these two Ladies contacted me weeks after the event and asked if it was ok to take Chris to a Ken Dodd show in Blackpool, I agreed and they did, sadly I have never seen them since…

They convinced me in the end that Ken Dodd is the worthy person to be chosen, he is 83 years old and still touring the country, filling theatres and often staying on stage way past his finishing time..!
He can also sing and has a lovely voice ..
Ken singing..
Dave Spikie came out and posed for a few photographers, with the ITN Girl..

She was more concerned about her hair, check out the headgear in the background..

Before Vlogging became a regular thing, I was doing it 6 years ago..#onlysaying…
My short video, its designed for you to get a feel of the occasion.. you do have to turn your head a bit to the side in parts though..
