As the title suggests, the Heart of Blackpool has come home to Blackpool where generations of families have spent many happy times here on holiday.
Its only fitting that Blackpool’s most iconic landmark the Blackpool Tower is the most suitable recipient of the Heart.. ![]()
First things first though, this project is part of the illumination project currently taking place on the Blackpool Tower, the top of the Tower has been completed and the legs will be covered in LED’s once other works have been completed..
The Heart of Blackpool has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Blackpool Wedding Chapel that is being constructed opposite the Tower..
The Blackpool Heart was attached to the Tower overnight, it has 41000 LED’s in a Heart shaped frame. The frame has been attached to the Tower’s legs at around 200ft up..
It has been designed by the Illumination Department, Steve Shaw, Richard & Greg..
And please lets not forget the guys doing the work, not just on the Heart of Blackpool but all the Towers refurbishment…MP Marine..
Chris and I met up with Richard & Greg outside the Tower..

Night photography in the rain is always a little tricky and my DSLR was tested to the limits, I have some pictures from Greg to post over the next few days when I can convert them..
Blackpool Promenade was closed and a special area was constructed outside the Tower and a site area, with strict Health & Safety limits was created for this operation..

Not many people can say that they touched the Heart of Blackpool..

A close up of the LED lights..

A short video of the event..please excuse the David Attenborough commentary…The only footage of it being lifted in the World..!
