One of the most extraordinary and beloved dance companies in the world is coming to Blackpool this summer as Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo take over the stage of Blackpool Grand Theatre on Friday 12 June at 7.30pm.
Celebrating 50 glorious years of dazzling audiences worldwide, the legendary company – affectionately known as The Trocks – are bringing their internationally acclaimed blend of virtuoso ballet and side-splitting comedy to the Fylde Coast as part of a 14-venue UK and Ireland tour presented by Dance Consortium.
Blending virtuosic dancing, theatrical flair and laugh-out-loud comedy, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo delivers a ballet experience unlike any other. Audiences can expect an evening that moves effortlessly from breathtaking technical brilliance to pure comic joy – one moment marvelling at the astonishing skill and elegance of the dancers, the next wiping away tears of laughter. The Trocks have a rare ability to make audiences feel part of something special; a shared celebration of artistry, mischief and theatrical magic that leaves theatres buzzing long after the curtain falls. It’s the kind of performance that lifts the spirit, surprises at every turn and reminds audiences why live theatre is such an unforgettable experience.
For Blackpool audiences, this rare visit promises a spectacular highlight in the region’s cultural calendar, combining world-class dance with riotous entertainment in the historic surroundings of the Grand Theatre.
“The funniest night you’ll ever have at the ballet!” The Guardian
Renowned for their sassy spoofs and affectionate homages to classical ballet, the all-male company perform the great works of the ballet repertoire with astonishing technical skill – while simultaneously turning the art form joyfully on its head.
Each dancer transforms into two theatrical personas – both ballerina and danseur – bringing an irresistible mix of glamour, precision and parody to the stage.
Every performance frivolously froths with tutus and testosterone, blush-pink pointe shoes, fierce false eyelashes and diva-level prima ballerina attitude. Yet behind the laughter lies something truly remarkable: impeccable classical technique, daring physicality and comic timing of extraordinary precision.
“We came to laugh, but we stayed to worship.” The Telegraph
For their Blackpool appearance, the company will present a dazzling programme featuring some of the most famous and beloved works in ballet history.
The evening includes The Trocks’ unforgettable interpretation of Swan Lake, choreographed after Lev Ivanov with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Their take on the world’s most famous ballet sweeps audiences into a magical realm of swans, variations and sweeping ensembles – and remains the company’s signature masterpiece.
Also featured is the legendary Dying Swan, choreographed after Michel Fokine to music by Camille Saint-Saëns. Created for Anna Pavlova in 1905, the Trocks’ interpretation of this iconic solo has become almost as famous as the original, combining exquisite theatricality with inspired comic brilliance.
The programme also includes Go For Barocco, choreographed by Peter Anastos to music by J.S. Bach – a witty and stylish homage to the cool precision of neoclassical ballet – and Walpurgisnacht, choreographed by Elena Kunikova after Leonid Lavrovsky with music by Charles Gounod, a lavish and joyful celebration of mythological spectacle.
Additional repertoire will be announced.
Blending virtuosic dancing, theatrical flair and laugh-out-loud comedy, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo deliver a ballet experience unlike any other – a glittering celebration of the art form that has captivated audiences for half a century.
Their arrival at Blackpool Grand Theatre promises to be one of the most joyful and unforgettable nights of the summer season.
