Way way back in in June 1994 we moved into our home.
A few months after moving in a burglar alarm tech came to fit an alarm system.
Whilst in the loft he told me about an ornate very old leather suitcase that he spotted whilst laying cables.
He asked if we wanted him to bring it down for us to see.
Instantly I said yes..!!
We opened the case excitedly and found an entire family history of the first owners of the house from 1938 Mr George Wright and Family.
We set out with the help of the Blackpool Gazette in finding any survivors of Mr Wrights family members so that we could reunite them with their belongings.
Mr Wright was an Army officer based in India and then a Police Inspector based in Bispham near to Blackpool.
After the story was published we received notice that Mr Wrights surviving Daughters had wanted to contact us and be reunited with the items.
An ex colleague from Bispham Police station also called me and asked to be present when they came to our home.
I remember it well 30 years later and it’s a piece of history that I will always cherish and remember until I pass.
I decided to frame the Blackpool Gazette publication and hang it in my hall, it’s kind of a cool reminder 😎
Echoes of a lost age
